Kips Bay New York 2024

Previous

For nearly 50 years, celebrated interior designers have transformed a luxury Manhattan home into an elegant exhibition of fine furnishings, art and technology to raise critical funds for New York City children. It is a great honour for David Harber to be invited by landscape designer Hollander Design to create a custom sculpture for its multi-leveled urban rooftop garden for Kips Bay NYC 2024.

The roof terrace re-interprets the spirit of English gardens for New York living with plantings of soft perennials, a backdrop of evergreens, and classic materials and forms – like the garden's oil-rubbed bronze planters, evergreen globes, and the random rectangular pattern in the limestone paving.

The rooftop garden is designed as both a serene city escape, and as a focal point from within the rooms of the townhouse. Varied levels create an experience of exploration and shifting viewpoints, defined by curving bronze planter walls with scalloped surfaces and echoed in bespoke sculpture, Thirty Quivers, realized by David Harber and named as a nod to the respective 30th anniversaries of David Harber and Hollander Design.
